Mian (Yuren: mian "catch all," Teelian: hanu "capture") is a popular Luhani board game. It is played on an 8x8 board, and each player has 20 pieces. The objective is to capture all of the opponent's pieces.
Gameplay
- At the start of the game, the board is clear. White places one of their pieces anywhere on the board, and on the next turn black does the same.
- On subsequent turns, each player may decide to either add another piece to the board or move one of their already deployed pieces.
- Pieces move orthogonally one tile.
- One may capture one of the opponent's pieces, provided that they are adjacent orthogonally, by leaping and landing on the tile directly beyond it, at which point the opponent's piece is removed from the game.
- The game may end in two ways:
- One player has no more pieces left and thus loses.
- Both players have no more valid moves, and whoever has captured more pieces wins.
- In the event that both players have captured the same amount of pieces, the game ends in a draw.
