The Search and Discovery Organisation or SDO is an inter-stellar inter-species multi-national entity founded in the year kq PE by Áonak elmian aerospace engineer Avújüʼ Bo Qúllúq and Bernite julean astronomer Zanatatx Yegtxe. Its headquarters (and place of founding) are located in the specially-created city of Nearby, Áonak Republic. Due to this, to this very day, it has a strong Elmian bias. Its original objective was to find extraterrestrial life, but nowadays this has expanded to studying and preserving such life whenever found, as well as cataloguing and studying uninhabited or barren planets and other celestial bodies. They also serve an administrative purpose, strengthening and maintaining political and economic ties between all known sophont species, along with education, being responsible for training people aspiring to join. To achieve this, they administer a large amount of universities across the known vici stellares.

Structure

The structure of the SDO is highly hierarchical, based on various wings separated by profession and scope. The people in each of these wings is ranked in a manner reminiscent of naval and cosmonaval organisations. Rankings are further emphasised by the different colours and patterns that SDO members wear.

  • Rank I or red-robes are low-access workers such as repair and cleaning services.
  • Rank II or yellow-robes are students, class organisers and testing volunteers.
  • Rank III or green-robes are mid-access workers such as pilots, dockworkers, ship crew and technicians.
  • Rank IV or blue-robes are high-access scientists and experts, such as astronomers, culture scholars, biologists, linguists, architects, aerospace engineers...
  • Rank V or purple-robes are the second-highest-access members, a rank exclusive to the heads of each wing.
  • The directors or black-robes are the highest rank in the entire organisation, and preside over its operations and management.
