The Root family is a group of related operating systems based on various versions of Stone Root, a system developed by Marcian Telecommunication Systems Co. in 1691. Due to Stone Root's open source nature, most if not all Root systems share their progenitor's source model, with notable proprietary exceptions including X, X and Ka Daq OS. They usually share a common software suite, preemptive multitasking, multiple users and time-sharing capabilities.

Oxygen
Based on USRoot, the–by the time severely outdated–variant of Stone Root used by the University of Şilaffurıt, Hermia. A versatile, highly customisable OS.
Mackerel
A Root-based OS that began as a hobby project by high school computer sciences professor Luovu Meärin in 1708. Started getting traction in online forums and eventually became a beloved niche FOSS operating system with a cult following.
Ka Daq OS
A proprietary Oxygen-derived OS shipped with Ka Daq devices. It's made for ease of adoption and use, complete with a polished desktop environment.
