Men (Phyrean for battle) is the phyrean derivation of the namunian game jashunga, thus part of the juhsung family of games.
Rules
Pieces
King
The king (hiaharth) moves the same as the general in jashunga, one tile in any direction. It is the royal piece of the game, so if it is bared or humbled (checkmated), the game ends. Unlike in other juhsung variants, the king may leap two tiles along its rank as its first move. This is known as sheltering (carhn).
Servant and Advisor
The servant (breddarth) follows the same movement pattern as the jashunga servant, one tile orthogonally, or one tile diagonally forwards. Once it reaches the first rank of the enemy it promotes to the advisor (fanarth), which moves the same as the king (ergo, one tile in any direction).
Priest and Polyarth
The priest (pyrarth) may move one tile diagonally or one tile forwards. It promotes to the polyarth (a monastic position in mosdrism), moving in a diamond-shaped pattern: either one tile diagonally or leap two tiles orthogonally.
Hound
The hound (cargar) is the piece with the most complex movement pattern. It leaps in an L-shape (thus hippogonally, one tile then two in a 90 degree angle) forwards, and two tiles diagonally backwards.
Archer
The archer (harparth) rides (i.e. may move indefinitely until it finds an obstacle or captures a piece) diagonally. It may also capture one tile along its rank. This allows it to switch between colours, as it is colourbound in its normal movement.
Chariot
The chariot (dont) rides orthogonally.
Soldier and Commander
The soldier (tewfyn) is the most numerous piece in the board, and moves exactly like its jashunga counterpart: one tile forwards, then once it leaves its initial position, also captures one tile along its rank. It promotes to the commander (ddenarth), which rides in any direction and is thus the most powerful piece in the game.
